DUBLIN, Ireland - In an operation at the Dublin Port, Revenue officers said that they had seized 17,250 euros in cash, which was hidden inside a van that arrived there.
According to officers, the haul of cash was seized after Revenue personnel stopped and searched a van that arrived at the Dublin Port from Holyhead on Sunday morning.
Officers suspect that the cash is proceeds of, or intended for use in, criminal activity.
Revenue also revealed that the cash was seized with the help of Revenue Detector Dog Blue.
They added that they found the cash hidden in the vehicle's glove box.
Subsequently, a man aged 25 was questioned in connection with the seizure.
On Monday, Revenue officers from Dublin Port were granted a three month Cash Detention Order by Judge Byran Smyth at Dublin district court.
Revenue revealed that these routine operations are part of its ongoing work targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.
