CORK, Ireland - In a tragic incident in Kinsale, Cork, a 67-year-old swimmer was found in the sea off Sandycove Island after he was spotted in the water by other swimmers.
The other swimmers are believed to have brought the man ashore and began administering CPR.
Members of the Old Head and Seven Heads coast guard rushed to assist the man after swimmers alerted emergency services.
The man, who had recently returned to the area from Malta with his family, is believed to have suffered a suspected heart attack while swimming in the sea.
The man was reportedly taken by the Coastguard helicopter Rescue 117 in Waterford to Cork University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An official said that the man suddenly went into cardiac arrest while swimming.
Gardai have launched an investigation into the incident and said that a post-mortem examination is scheduled to be carried out.
