WEXFORD, Ireland - Gardai have been investigating a case of burglary, involving a major gang that has been operating in the southeast of the country.

Earlier this week, Gardai arrested four people in connection to its probe and have now stated that they made their fifth arrest in the case.

Gardai are probing suspected links that the gang has to a string of burglaries targetting small businesses.

In the first part of the raid, gardai on Thursday said that they had carried out searches at 11 houses in Co Wexford and had seized a number of items.

The raid involved over 50 gardaí from Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow, Waterford and Wexford and the team of investigators were also assisted by a Dog Handling Unit attached to the Customs unit at Rosslare Port.

Officials said that simultaneous searches were carried out at the properties in the Enniscorthy area at 6.30 am and arrested three men, two in their 40s and one in his 30s, and a woman in her 20s.

Apart from the arrests, gardai seized cash, financial documents and a range of electronic devices including phones, sat navs, walkie talkies and a card key reader.

The fifth person arrested is a man in his 30s and all the five individuals arrested in the case are understood to be from Romania.
