Cape Town - South Africa's SA's Frittelli claims Open berth with PGA Tour win

Frittelli's win earned him a place in this week's Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

"I'm super excited to go to Ireland and play there," Frittelli told reporters following his win.

"I actually played the 2013 Irish Open there so I've seen Portrush. I'm probably a step ahead of a few guys as I wouldn't have to play as many practice holes so I think I can compete there.

"Hopefully I can get the ball rolling, hopefully we get some good weather and make some birdies."

Frittelli, who was playing in his first John Deere Classic tournament, also earned a two-year exemption to the PGA Tour, which will take him through the 2020/21 season.

He also earned a spot into various 2020 fields as the Sentry Tournament of Champions, Players Championship, Masters and PGA Championship.
