DUBLIN, Ireland - Three men have been arrested after gardai stopped two vehicles in the Artane area of Dublin on Saturday.
The operation was the result of an intelligence led operation, and was carried out by garda from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and Security and Intelligence Section.
The three men, aged in their 20s, 40s and 50s, were arrested on the spot and a firearm was seized.
The three men are currently detained at unspecified garda stations in Dublin.
"The seizure of firearms and the arrest of those who are prepared to use them to take life is a priority for the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau," Detective Chief Superintendent Angela Willis, head of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau said Sunday.
Assistant Commissioner John O'Driscoll of Special Crime Operations added: "I have no doubt that this operation has prevented a firearm being used to take life and enabled the Garda Sochna to keep people safe."
