DUBLIN, Ireland - Five people have been arrested and a huge haul of drugs destined for the streets of Dublin has been confiscated.
As part of an intelligence-led operation carried out by gardai from Ballymun and Santry on Saturday afternoon, a car was stopped on Balbutcher Lane at around 4:00pm. Two men, aged 22 and 55, were arrested at the scene and a quantity of cannabis herb was found after their vehicle was searched.
In a follow up search of a house in Santry, Dublin 9 by gardai from Ballymun and Santry, Cannabis Herb, Cocaine and Diamorphine with an estimated street value of €400,000 was seized.
Three people, a 21-year old youth, a 35-year old man, and a woman, 27, were in the house at the time of the search and were arrested and taken to Ballymun and Clontarf Garda Stations.
All five prisoners were detained under Section 2 of The Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act, 1996 while investigations continue. However two of three, the initial two arrested, the 22 and 55 year old men, appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice on Monday morning. The other 3 people have been released without charge. Files will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
