Gardai discover and seize 48,000 cash in routine patrol check

CO TIPPERARY, Ireland - A chance search of a car in County Tipperary on Wednesday night has led to the discovery of €48,000 in cash.

The money was seized, and the driver of the car was arrested and is currently being detained.

The saga began around 7:00pm Wednesday night when a routine patrol being carried out by garda from the Tipperary Town Drugs Unit stopped a car on St Michael's Avenue in Tipperary Town.

Officers carried out a search of the car and found the approximately €48,000 in cash.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 60s, was arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

He was taken to Tipperary Garda Station where he is currently detained.
