BRUSSELS -- All the 27 countries of the European Union (EU) have signed a declaration to build a secure quantum communication infrastructure (QCI) that will span the whole bloc, the European Commission said on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Commission said Ireland was the last member state to sign the EuroQCI declaration. The initiative is to boost European capabilities in quantum technologies, cybersecurity and industrial competitiveness. (EU-Quantum-Initiative)

ATHENS -- Firefighters were battling wildfires that broke out on two fronts on Wednesday in the forest areas in Greece's Achaea region, more than 200 km west of the capital Athens.

WASHINGTON -- Qin Gang, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the United States of America, arrived in the United States on Wednesday to assume office.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Federal Reserve on Wednesday kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at the record-low level of near zero amid growing concerns over surging inflation and the rapid spread of the Delta variant.
"The path of the economy continues to depend on the course of the virus. Progress on vaccinations will likely continue to reduce the effects of the public health crisis on the economy, but risks to the economic outlook remain," the Fed said in a statement after concluding a two-day meeting.
