CO GALWAY, Ireland - Dozens of gardai officers were called in to break up a brawl in a cemetery late Wednesday afternoon in County Galway.
The violent altercation is now the subject of an investigation.
The brawl broke out at about 4:00pm Wednesday afternoon involving a large group of people at the cemetery in Tuam, Co Galway.
Approximately 30 gardai officers responded including local uniform and plainclothes officers, including reinforcements from the wider North Western Region and the Regional Armed Support Unit.
Garda had to physically intervene between parties and disperse people, before preserving the scene. A youth in possession of a knife was arrested while attempting to flee the scene. He was taken to Tuam Garda Station and has since been released. A file is being prepared for the Juvenile Liaison Officer.
Five males and two females were injured during the course of the altercation and were taken to University Hospital Galway with non-life-threatening injuries.
