DUBLIN, Ireland - Gardai have appealed for witnesses to a brutal assault on a 51-year-old man that happened last Sunday evening in Dublin.

While walking down Haddington Road, shortly before 5 p.m., the man was approached and attacked by a gang of individuals.

The victim suffered major head and facial injuries and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital, where his condition is characterized as severe but not life-threatening.

According to Garda, many people were in the area following the rugby match between Ireland and Argentina at the neighboring Aviva Stadium.

They're appealing for anyone who has camera footage from the Haddington Road neighborhood between 4.30 and 5.30 p.m. on Sunday to contact them.

Garda urged anyone having the information to contact Irishtown Garda Station 01-6669600 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
