DUBLIN, Ireland - As pressure mounts on Irish hospitals, an Irish GP urges the public to begin isolation at the first sign of Covid infection.

According to Dr. Nuala O'Connor, many GPs are contacted by patients with Covid who have already gone to work or an event because of minor symptoms.

She insists that people stay home if they have Covid symptoms, and children should not be sent to parties or summer camps if they have a cold or other Covid symptoms.

Dr. O'Connor said during RTE's 'Today with Claire Byrne,' "We're seeing a lot of Covid after social events like weddings and funerals."

"You're most infectious when you have early symptoms." Also, please consider others who may be more vulnerable and stay home.

"There's a lot of Covid out there now, and we're seeing a big impact on that in our day-to-day work in general practice."

She went on to say that hospitals are under severe strain due to the summer wave of infection and that Covid patients now occupy a large number of beds.
