CO MONAGHAN, Ireland - A 17-year old boy was killed in a single vehicle road traffic collision on Wednesday.
The fatal crash occurred in Carrickaderry, Clontibret, Co. Monaghan.
Early responders were called to the scene at around 1:30am Wednesday morning.
The boy, who was driving the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. His body has been removed from the scene to the mortuary at Monaghan General Hospital where, gardai say, a post-mortem will take place in due course.
The scene of the collision on the old N2 road in Carrickaderry was closed pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions were put in place.
Garda in Monaghan are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. Any road users who were travelling in the Clontibret area on Wednesday morning between 1.00am and 1.45am, and who may have camera footage (including dashcam), is asked to make this available to gardai.
