Man dies after his motorcycle crashes in Co Laois

CO LAOIS, Ireland - A young man is dead following a single-vehicle road traffic collision in County Laos.

The crash occurred Tuesday night in Abbeyleix, Co. Laois. A man in his 20s was riding a motorbike on the N77 at the junction of the Portlaoise Road and Ballyroan Road at approximately 7:50pm, when the motorbike crashed.

Ambulance and Gardai were called to the scene where they found the motorcyclist in critical condition, He was pronounced dead a short time later, while still at the scene of the crash.,

There were no other persons injured in the crash.

The body of the man was removed to the mortuary at Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.

The scene remained preserved overnight pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators on Wednesday morning. The road from Main Street in Abbeyleix to Tonduff Cross on the Portlaoise Road was closed and local diversions put in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users or pedestrians who were in the area between 7:00pm and 8:00pm, and have camera footage (including dashcam) are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
